Ground Attack Links

I've come across some amazing videos recently on various forms of ground attacks, from mass hogs and GoWiVa and GoWiWi to hybrid GoHoWiWi attacks. If you like ground attacks in Clash of Clans, you are going to want to check these out!
  • Hog Rider New Attack Strategy- New Hope Episode 3 - Vodka CoC has a really good guide here to "post-update" hogging, in this new world with unlurable heroes and bigger badder giant bombs. He doesn't just take on premie bases in farming raids, he shows a pro CW 3-star attack versus a powerful TH10 base. A key for the two attacks in this video is enemy heroes positioned near the outside of the base. He uses 36 hogs, 5 wiz, 4 witches and some others, with 3 heals, 1 rage and 1 freeze.
  • Hog Rider Attack Strategy for TH9 - Episode 2 combo with witches - Vodka CoC also shares some tips for TH9 hoggers post-update. Overall: lure and kill CC, ideally near AQ and with witches; take out the AQ by whatever means necessary (usually your heroes), send in the hogs in a way that avoids double giant bombs and gets to core, 3 heals with a rage in the core; 36 gos, 3 witches, 3 wiz and assorted. A second nice attack is shown with 34 hogs and 4 witches.
  • Have you been crushed by basically giants and wizards in a clan war? Want to know how?
Vodka CoC is back with a strategy and attack video using giants and wizards to two-star a tough TH10 base in a clan war. It's more of a GiWiWiPe as he adds one pekka and some witches to the 15 giants and 18 wizards. Spells used: 2 rage, 1 heal, 1 jump, 1 freeze.
  • The Hulk shows how to beat "The General" TH9 base with Hogs with a nice 3-star clan war attack. A highlight of Hulk's videos is that he explains every aspect of the attack first, then shows the raid. Watching the HulkFiles can really take your game to a higher level. This attack uses 35 hogs, 2 witches, 7 wizards and assorted troops with 4 heals spells.
  • Like Hybrid attacks? Like GoWiPe but wish it had more 3-star potential as a TH9 facing a max TH9 with lava walls?! Check out this TH9 vs TH9 GoWiPeLoon 3-star clan war attack. The attacker built a custom army for the base, using 2 golems, 2 pekka, 12 wiz, 6 wb, 5 barbs, a giant and 14 balloons along with a jump, bolt, heal and rage. The balloons were sprinkled in throughout the raid as the closest AD dropped. Though the main force could not escape the lava walled core, the loons took out the defenses and got the full win.
    - the same channel, Clash of Clans 3 Stars Clan Wars, shows some other nice hybrid raids with GoHoWiWi (hog-GoWiWi mix), with both a TH10 GoHoWiWi and TH9 GoHoWiWi. These basically subsitute hogs for witches and pekka, following a typical golem-wiz-wb-royals deploy. Or swap out the third golem for 2 witches. For TH9 the hogs do a lot of working, taking 3 heals and one rage.
  • OneHive Raids has a truly excellent channel for Clash of Clan strategy lovers. One of his favorite attacks is a hybrid of balloons and hogs with witch and wizard support - the HoLoWiWi. It's not for every base, but on certain base types it does a great job at getting three stars. He has a video showing How to Use HoLoWiWi.
  • Cold Blooded GoHo! The Hulk shows a TH9 ripping apart a TH9 with hogs. Coming with the hogs is an attack force designed to kill the AQ and get to the giant bomb area - that queen killer is the "Cold Blood" squad. Lure the CC first, pull to corner you will deploy the Cold Blood squad. Kill CC and golem/witch/royals move in. When bomb dismantled the hogs roll, and roll, and crush. Composition: 32 hogs, 2 witches and 8 wiz 4 barbs, Golem in CC, 3 heals and a jump to get to the buried queen and core bomb.
  • Check out this TH9 vs TH9 GoWiPeLoon 3-star clan war attack.
Some Clan War summary videos with Amazing Attacks
  • CoC Clan War E05: InTheDark vs Schlaflos: these guys are incredibly good. ClashWithEd narrates five attacks from this war.
    - First attack (2:10-3:40): A solid GoWiWiPe for 2 stars on a max TH10
    - Second attack (4:00-6:22): An incredible duolavaloonion hybrid 3* with golem and some hogs :)
    - Third attack (6:45-9:05) Duo-Lavaloonion 2* with golem-pekka-hero opener
    - Fourth attack (9:58-12:46) Another great duo-lavaloonion 3* with golem-hero open
    - Fifth attack (13:20-16:10) Duo-lavaloonion with heroes leading the way... another three star!
  • Jake from OneHive Raids gives a recap of war #102 showing four great attacks.
    - First attack (1:00-2:50) GoWiVa plus some hogs, 3 heals and 1 rage, a TH9 on TH9 3-star
    - Second attack (3:00-4:50) An old-fashioned hogging with a twist, loon for CC lure/kill, heroes with witches to take out their heroes, then the hogs are let loose.
    - Third attack (5:11-7:45) GoWiWiPe very close to 3-star, TH10 on TH10.
    - Fourth attack (7:53-10:13) Trilavaloonion crushes a lava-walled max TH9 by a TH9. One hound and a few loons take out one AD and lure CC. Kill with splat. Then his own CC golem and royals followed up by taking out another AD.
  • OneHive Raid recap of war #103 has some equally spectacular attacks. Two I want to highlight
    - TH9 on TH9 3* Lavaloonion (3:35-6:15) Hound with four loons and rage to kill one AD and lure out. Corner CC and splat kill. Royals deployed near edge for AQ+AD and take both out. The two remaining hounds and just 12 balloons and remaining 9 minions and 3 rage crush the base.
    - TH9 vs TH9 (6:28-) creative 3* of a base with 3 super central AD and big anti-hog ring. Army comp: 30 loons, 2 witches, 10 wiz, 6 barb, CC golem and heal, 2 rage, jump. He uses all the baloons to destroy the outer defense ring and lure (one rage used). Cornered them, deployed witches to kill, the golem released with wiz and soon heroes as normal. Basically the only defenses left are in the core. Jump, rage and heal get it done. Boom, it's wrecked. Similar to ao HoLoWiWi but way more balloons left and less units in phase two.

Air Attack Links

I've come across some amazing videos recently on various forms of air attacks, from mass dragons and dragon-balloons (dragoon) to Lava Hound - Balloon - Minion. If you're an air attack fan in Clash of Clans, you really need to check these out!
  • How to Dragloon at TH8 - Part ONE and Part TWO
Incredibly helpful videos by OneHive Raids specifically looking at TH8 vs TH8 air attacks with dragons and a few balloons. The first part covers centrally clustered Air Defenses; part two looks at more spread out AD's. OneHive has other excellent videos for strategy lovers, uch as this base attack breakdown
  • JTJ University Clan War Tactics - wiping out TH8 with 105 Dragoon and 813 Dragoon
This series also considers the difference between clustered and spread out air defenses. The 105 Dragoon uses 10 Dragons and 5 Balloons in the Clan castle with clustered AD best faced with heals and rage spells while the 813 uses 8 Dragons and 13 total balloons with a triple lightning bolt. Almost any TH8 can be three-starred with one of these two raid styles.
--> he added two extra videos to round out the type of bases covered:
11 Light Dragon Attack (all dragons, using lightning to knock out a far away AD)
Dragon Snipe Attack (using hogs to knock out external AD's)
  • Quatrolavaloonion! Galadon's epic "Lethal Attack Combo" video using four lava hounds to wreak havoc on enemy bases. This is a very powerful and novel attack, you really have to see it to believe it!
  • More Lava Hound attacks focusing on the use of multiple hounds (PolyPuppy as I call them) have also been posted. Some especially good ones by: Galadon on TH9 Quatrolavaloonion; Clash with Ash on using Lava Hounds in Champion League to 2-star and more gameplay vs max base; top clash air attack master Ed on using Lavaloonion to 2-star; even Godson is starting to like them as he shows a great 3-star attack. Here is andreinen's sick 100% vs a max TH10 using 2 LH 20 Loons 40 Minions and very well timed spells.
  • Super Dragoon explained by Galadon, both for TH10 and for TH8-9. In SuperDragoon (or Dragloonion as I would call it) the idea presented here is to use a raged tactical squad of balloons to take out one external AD and triple lightning bolt another AD. Send a line or V-formation of balloons, and use two dragons on each side to clip off distractions and create a funnel. Release the killer force of four balloons once the funnel is established. Army composition at TH10: about 8 (or 9) dragons with 14 (or 10) balloons and some barbs-archers and 5 more balloons. The last rage is saved until the main force is upon the TH. The first tactical squad of balloons also activates the clan castle. Use the barbs-archers to position troops over the air defense you want to bolt. :)
  • HoLoWiWi - Using Loons as a supplement to a GoWiWi ground attack. There are many variants to the GoWiWi. In the GoHoWiWi 8-20 Hogs are used after Golem and heroes and witch clear one side of path and distract or kill royals (Hogs are not dead after the update, you just need to modify your approach!). The HoLoWiWi is a custom attack good versus certain kinds of bases only: the super spread out one with a large defense ring and inner AD. Loons are used to knock out all or most of the outer ring and hogs wreck the core and rest of the base. Heroes with witch and wizard is used to kill the CC which must be lured. TheHulkFiles goes into a lot more detail with HoLoWiWi, considering variants with 10 or less balloons (the Needle) and >11 (the Swarm HoLo).

December 2014 - More Air Attacks
  • Lava Hound are the hot item right now! Some of my favorite recent videos include:
Vodka CoC's TH10 3-star Lavaloonions showing two great attacks. First used 4 LH 24 Loons 12 Mins 5 Barb 3 WB and standard 3 rage 2 freeze, clip-lure-AQ-AD-main attack; second attack had AQ deeper so he swapped out a hound for a golem.
Vodka CoC's TH10 3-star with Quattro-Lavaloonions showing how four hounds can work well. He uses one a bomb-killer/CC lure. two great attacks. Total of 19 loons, 27 minions, and some great spell timing and placement.
    - Vodka CoC again? Yup. Two more super Lavaloonion attacks in his Lava Hound strategy guide episode 7. I had to chuckle at his subtitle that this guide was for non-max heroes. I'm thinking lvl 15... no, he means BK is "only" lvl 30! :) The first attack takes advantage of two AD fairly near each other. He uses a hog lure, CC, kill then heroes after golem to knock out those two AD, using a jump spell to negate those blue walls. Three hounds and 21 loons (14 in camp, 7 in CC) and 10 minions wail on the other two AD and the rest of the base. The second attack is different from what you normally see. Zero minions! 33 loons and three hounds, with 2 rage and 2 freeze, plus a lightning bolt for CC since minions wouldn't be killing them. The attack began with a heroes-based AQ kill and CC lure.
    - How to Lavaloonion Like a Pro - Guide from the UN Family has some great information. Army combo's; what bases to attack; the steps in an attack; and common mistakes. One popular army when going for three stars is 3 hounds, 23 balloons, 13 minions, 3 wb, 3 archers (and commonly 7 more loons in your CC).
  • Toucharcade1 had its first Lavaloonion CW 3-star. Bax narrates this quattrolavaloonion attack by TH9 boyzpod vs a TH9
  • Chief Pat at PlayClash of Clans has a decent Lavaloonion strategy guide. His composition is fixed at 2 hounds, 20 balloons, 30 minions, one dragon, with more of whatever in the CC.
  • Clash of Clans 3Star Clan Wars brings a powerful duo-hog lavaloonion 3* vs a tough TH10. (Xbows were all down). Two AD near TH, two up north. The raid starts atypically, with king and queen released up top, before a full air deploy south. 28 balloons, 2 hounds (including one in CC) and 31 minions roll very quickly. As the AD were deeper, he holds just a few seconds on the hounds (best practice when deep). He knew CC was a lot of archers and such so he brought a lightning along with two rage and two freeze. You can tell the attacker studied the pathing of the balloons, as the rage were perfectly placed. The freezes went up simultaneously left and right on the IT and teslas, allowing the loons to get ahead of the minions and take them out. The heroes up top had cleared buildings and were just starting to come inside at this point. They took out the two top AD just in time as the remaining air troops were mopping up. 3*.
  •  What's that? You want to see some high level raids, none of this polylava stuff?
  • Galadon is not scared to admit defeat, and in his new video, Extreme Clan War Domination, Lost Phoneix just got owned by 300! War. (No shame there!) There were seven 3-stars on top TH10 bases, and he showed three of them. First was a cool quatrolavaloonion wrecking the base in 1:15. The second was a GoWiPe where everything just went right, starting with a super wide three-golem spread. Third was a mass hog rider raid, with golem-led royals
  • ClashWithEd brings us a video with 3 high level TH10 2-stars with balloonion. First attack is 27 balloons with 45 minions (one hound) with 4 rage and a freeze. Second and third attacks use the same composition. He leads off with a CC hound and balloon to lure CC and take out one AD. He uses a rage and about 9 balloons with that to take out a whole quadrant. A prelaged tactical balloon squad takes out the adjacent quadrant. Some minions clean up free buildings to get percentage close to 50%. He very cleverly uses barbs to pull away the BK to kill him with minions. By the time all that is done, he's already over 50% :) Hero time, with some beefy heroes, take down the TH with no worries. Those of us with mortal heroes won't take out fully max TH's with this, but we can hit non-max ones for two-stars pretty nicely! :)

Vid Watch - Lavoonions and More

Several great videos caught my attention this week, in the wake of the latest update of Clash of Clans with the Lava Hound.

Godson used 3 Lava Hounds and 75 Minions to 2-star a buff TH10 in a Clan War. Wow. or "Yeaaaaaa!!" as Godson would say :)

MaddenDvinik posted some great 2-Star air raids from UN Epic Raids.

In the first video (at 1:38) there is a vanilla Balloonion attack that got a nice two-star on a near max TH10. Minions hit freebies then the attacker pre-raged left and right for a line deploy of balloons followed by a dragon from the clan castle. When archers and wizards poured out of the clan castle two lightning bolts crushed them. Finally, a rage on the TH secured the deuce.

Second video (2:35) showed a highly reliable mass dragon attack vs a strong TH10. The attack started off by using a CC golem and deployment of max heroes to clear the top quadrant (12:00-2:00 o'clock), including one AD and the AQ, using one rage spell. The other relevant AD was triple-bolted. Then seven (of 12) dragons were deployed to the east (2-4 o'clock) in order to clip outer buildings, lure and kill the CC. While they're were finishing up the remaining 5 dragons were deployed from the NE (2:00 o'clock) with a nice straight path to core. The last rage spell was deployed as they reached the TH and the infernos could do nothing to stop them. A solid two-star with 60% destruction.

Clash With Ed shared an advanced lesson - an Ed Academy video on getting two stars from even the toughest TH10 bases using Balloonion and high level heroes. If your heroes are lower level, hit a weaker base, but the principles here are solid and well explained: clip left and take out AQ+AQ, bolt out the right AD and clear % on that side with half your dragons, then deploy the other half in the middle for a clean path to the town hall.

Hogs Ride Again

I ran across a great strategy guide for Hog Riders in this brave new world of unlurable heroes and bigger giant bombs, by Noel. In the guide he covers general principles, then walks you through key tips for several different specific cases. The example videos are all from Clan Wars, so no preemie bases with empty clan castles! Specifically Noel covers:
Below is the TH10 disco base, but check out the entire forum guide which has all these videos embedded.

Introducing 'Clash with Ed'

Toucharcade1 has been doing a lot more GoWiPe (GOlem WIzard PEkka) attacks recently in our clan  wars. It's a very difficult attack to master, but it's very effective when done well, able to two-star the strongest bases. We hope to have a solid guide at some point, but for now I wanted to provide some links to excellent GoWiPe attack, and give some detailed notes on one I thought was especially good!

I have a new YouTuber I'm following: Ed, a leader in the top ten clan, Quantum's Web. Ed just hit #7 in the world so he knows his stuff. He is especially good with Balloonion, so expect more videos from him later. Below are some links and comments he shared recently.

Clan War 4: Quantum Web vs Up All Night

GoWiWiPe TH10 3-Star (9:25-11:30 in the video)
3 Golems 3 Witches 2 Pekka 10 wb 6 barbs with 3 Freeze 2 Rage

The attacker faces a popular "Southern Teaser" base - coming from the South tends to fail, and the North has a lot of compartments, so coming from East/West is a common route for Golem attacks.
Here he lays down Golems nicely spread out and basically "clips" the buildings down South so that the main force coming in through the middle hole will not be distracted to wander south, but will instead head into the core and take down the TH. Coming from East he takes on just one inferno at a time. Witches and wizards come behind the heroes and pekka and are nicely protected. The broad spread, witches, and great use of spells actually result in a 3 Star versus a solid TH10 base.

New School Hog Raid - Heroes First  (16:15-18:26 in the video)
40 Hogs 4 Witches 5 Wiz 7 Barbs with 2 Heal 2 Freeze 1 Rage

Hogs were seriously hurt by the last Clash of Clans update, but they're not dead! How they are used has changed a bit. The key change was unlurable heroes, and the new approach to deal with them at high levels is with heroes and witches to take out the opposing CC and royals. In this attack by Jenscee of Quantum's Web, he starts the raid with a couple of hogs to lure the CC and to detonate giant bombs. Their CC is killed with his own CC followed by King and Queen. As the army moves inside they get in range of the opposing AQ and BK where they are killed using hero abilities with wizard and witch backup. Once the heroes are under control, the attackers unleashes the hogs from the opposite side, in a double stream, with two heals near WT and possible bombs, then double freeze as they get near the infernos plus a well timed rage. An incredible 3-star attack! Had the hogs failed up north, this is still a definite 1-2 star attack -- unlike the old school hog attacks which got 3-stars or failed spectacularly!

Balloonions in Champions League - Balloon Academy

Seriously pro balloon-minions attacks. Go check out this playlist! It includes several great two-star attacks on maxxed TH10's

Jodecast Defense Series - Episode 11 LIVE

Outstanding GoWiPe TH10 2-Star vs #7 Player (12:05-14:25 in the video)
2 Golems 4 Pekka 16 wb 17 wiz 15 arc w/ 2 Freeze 1 Rage 1 Jump 1 Lightning

This is such a classic GoWipe attack! No witches used, max troops levels. 55% deuce!
  • Approach: all sides equally close to TH, he chose the side with CC opposite TH so they would pull his pekka right on top of the TH later. BK and AQ are lined up so they won't distract.
  • Golem Deployment: a common question is 'How far apart do I deploy my Golems?' This video shows one great way to do it - as far apart on one side you can get them where every defense on that side is firing at the golems. Wider than that and middle units are not protected. Closer together and your % destruction will decrease.
  • Immediate row of clearing wizards behind golems. He gets wiz out immediately to kill those defenses firing on the golems and kill the whole row of buildings. This is crucial so that pekka coming soon do not get distracted and wander around the base! You'll want to use 7-10 wizards to do this. Do NOT bunch them up lest giant bombs kill a bunch. Note: I love to sprinkle a few barbarians in first, even before the golems, to detonate any such bombs.
  • Wall Breakers. No rush! Focus on the wizard first, why let the golems go further in and attract even more fire before you have those buildings cleared? How many you need depends on wall level and wb level, but bring extra in case you hit spring traps or a surprise tesla. If a max wiz tower is firing on your golem, don't drop wbs right there, every one will get killed.
  • Pekka. Only now is it pekka time! These gals come in the middle, once their path to the center is quite clear.
  • Core wizards / witches - then King and Queen - in this raid just a few, but behind golems come and center-going ranged troops. Your heroes are usually the last troops deployed. Make SURE you know where they will head before deploying them. Versus a hard base like this you want them in the core. Versus a weaker base you might intentionally send one or more around, behind a golem, for extra % or a three-star attempt.
  • Jump spell. (or wall-breakers, under freeze/rage if no jump). With the units out, carefully lay down the jump spell to finalize the pathway into the core. This lasts a long time. Note he has NOT used any rage yet? Why? He has not needed to! He has one which he will save until really needed. Be patient with the rage, be early with the jump.
  • Rage spell. Often this will be deployed when you are just about to enter core, with a forward deployed rage to help you face royals, CC, and TH.
  • First Freeze spell. You can (and often should) freeze their heroes! If you get a chance to freeze 1-2 heroes and an inferno and tesla like this, do it!
  • BK Iron Fist. When the BK is about to hit the TH is a super time to activate his special ability! You really want to let him take some damage before activating.
  • Second Freeze spell. Very well deployed here, catching the CC and the back inferno. By doing this, his raged pekka/BK were not distracted and wiped out TH.
  • Lightning Bolt. A bolt is a great spell to take with GoWiPe. A CC full of 35 archers or wiz/arc or witches can be a nightmare distracting and killing your main force right as they should be focusing on the TH. A bolt takes care of them easily, and doing it after the freeze avoids a miss.
  • AQ Royal Cloak. With the core wiped out he is sitting at around 40%, needing to get to 50%. Do not waste your queen's ability early, be sure to wait until she is injured, ideally when a defense is close to killing here so it will change targets.
  • Deploy Final Units. It is a great idea to hold back a small number of wizards or archers to pick off the last building or two to get 50%. In this raid, the attacker did not need his CC earlier and has the whole CC left to get the last few %. For us mortals, we would deploy the CC up front with our pekka's or 'core wizards/witches'
  • Watch the Replay. Learn from your own attacks, see what went well, what didn't, what to do different next time :)

Good luck in your own GoWiPe attacks!

Dragloonions - Theory and Practice

In a recent Clan War, Meowr Jr pulled off an impressive attack on a TH9 base that others were scared to touch -- a base which had a number of centralized Air Defense units and a highly centralized clan castle. How to break into the core and take down the town hall? Could another TH9 two-star this base?

In this video Meowr shares his thought process in planning the raid...

And in this follow-up video, Bax provides a running commentary on the attack. Can Meowr pull off his game plan for this base?!

For more insights on the Dragloonion attack, check out Meowr's tutorials on Dragloonion, Rage Looning or Loon Splat.

Dragloonion 101

Dragloonion (Meowr-style) 101*
*Prerequisites:

Why Dragloonion:
Sometimes, you might not have all your GoWiPe troops maxed. Sometimes the enemy base has low level Air Defenses. Sometimes the enemy base has their Air Defenses exposed. This is the time to punish such bases, by combining Dragons, Balloons, and Minions -- the Dragloonion (Dragaloonion) attack!

Objective of this course:
To show you how to qualify a base for a dragloonion attack, and to show you the attack procedure (Meowr style).

Theory:
Dragons are dumb. I mean, really dumb. Yes, they are programmed to attack the nearest building, but they seem to ALWAYS choose the path that you don’t want them to take. This makes all dragon armies not only expensive, but also unreliable for a 2 star win.  Meowr-Style dragloonion uses balloons and minions to cut into a base, destroying buildings that can distract dragons, ensuring that the bulk of your dragon army will head to the core.

There are several other ways to accomplish the main objectives of “cut” into the base at two places and force the dragons to the core. You can use an all dragon army, using 2 dragons per side to cut into the base. You can deploy dragons and loons, and use timing to guide your dragons.
I prefer a more systematic way of attacking, so this is my way way of doing it.

Qualifying a base and Instructions:
Air Defenses are the single thing that can stop a dragon attack. Bases you want to use dragloonion on, usually have exposed Air Defenses. Evenly spaced out, exposed Air Defenses are the best targets to attack.

Here’s an example of a perfect base to do a dragloonion on:
C:\CoC replays\Dragaloonion Tutorial vids\Dragaloon1.png

First use Rage-Loon to take out two AD’s on the sides.
C:\CoC replays\Dragaloonion Tutorial vids\Dragaloon1-1.jpg

After the Rage Loons, you will likely have to do a Loon Splat on the CC troops.

After the Loon Splat, use a few more loons to clear out some anti-air defenses.C:\CoC replays\Dragaloonion Tutorial vids\Dragaloon1-2.jpg

Then use minions sparingly to clear out exterior buildings.

C:\CoC replays\Dragaloonion Tutorial vids\Dragaloon1-3.jpg

Now all you are left with, is a corner of buildings, and a straight path which dragons will take to the core.

C:\CoC replays\Dragaloonion Tutorial vids\Dragaloon1-4.jpg

Have one Rage, and another spell (Heal or Freeze, whichever is appropriate) ready for when the dragon reaches the core.

With the nerf to hogs, CW bases like this is hard to find. A more realistic base these days, with one or two Air Defenses in the core, looks like this:
C:\CoC replays\Dragaloonion Tutorial vids\Dragaloon2.jpg

Same methods apply.

First, Rage Loon two sides to get rid of some anti-air defenses.
You might have to do a Loon Splat after the first or second Rage Loon, so make sure you have a spare balloon or two for the Loon Splat.
C:\CoC replays\Dragaloonion Tutorial vids\Dragaloon2-1.jpg

Then do some clean up with minions. Make sure you wait for the minions to clear the buildings!
C:\CoC replays\Dragaloonion Tutorial vids\Dragaloon2-2.jpg

Now you are left with a clear path to the core.  Rage/Heal as needed.

C:\CoC replays\Dragaloonion Tutorial vids\Dragaloon2-3.jpg

Here’s a video of the final result:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wmqNwN2lFLU

Notes:

You can use Barbarian King or Archer Queen to help clear out external buildings

Carrying one or two small ground units like an archer or barbarian can be useful against a CC with a witch. The skeletons that the witch summons, can distract dragons at the core.
So after you take care of the anti-air CC units, you can drop a ground unit AWAY from the path of the dragons, and keep the skeletons from ruining your attack.

Patience is key. If you deploy your dragons before the outer buildings are clear, they might wander around the perimeter.

Rage Looning 101

Why Rage-Loon:
Balloons are powerful troops, held back by their slow speed. This is why Rage pairs so nicely with balloons, but it’s not because of the extra power Rage gives (though it is a bonus), but the speed boost that it offers.

Objective of this course:
The objective is to teach you to be able to cause as much defensive building destruction, as fast and efficient as possible.

Theory:
They key is to drop the Rage FIRST, then deploy loons within the Rage radius.  This will allow your loons to start off at full speed, saving precious seconds of travel time. The seconds you save, will mean the difference between destroying a lot of defensive buildings, or destroying only a few or none at all.
Because of this, you should take a few seconds to initially recognize where you can drop a Rage to maximize its radius, and where to drop your balloons so that they can cause as much destruction as possible.

Qualifying your target:
This is a prime example of what to look for, when Rage-Looning:

C:\CoC replays\Dragaloonion Tutorial vids\Screenshot (3).png
Notice the 3 anti-air defenses, all in a row.
Notice that the buildings in front of the walls is tucked in tight? This means the balloons have a shorter amount of travel to get to their targets.

This is the BEST CASE scenario for a Rage-Loon. So we will use this as our main learning example.

Instructions:
Now that you’ve identified WHAT you want to destroy, the next step is to figure out the best way to destroy it.
Drop a Rage. Drop some balloons. Easy right?
Well, the WHERE and HOW make a significant difference, as to how many balloons are needed to destroy these 3 buildings.

First the WHERE:
When you drop a Rage, think of it as dropping it on the CENTER SQUARE of a tic-tac-toe grid. For all intents and purposes, we shall assume radius of a Rage can cover nine 3x3 buildings.
You want to reach the Rage to reach the top squares (defensive buildings), and the bottom squares (where you will deploy the balloons).

C:\CoC replays\Dragaloonion Tutorial vids\TicTacToe.png
First drop the Rage on the Purple X. Then drop the balloons on the black dots. Each drop point of a balloon should make the balloon travel up to the corresponding defensive building. This covers the WHERE.

Second is the HOW.  How many balloons in which dot?
In general, a total of 6 balloons should do the trick, but how you deploy them makes a BIG difference.
If you send 2 to the Archer Tower, then 2 to the Wizard Tower, then 2 to the Air Defense, IN THAT ORDER, they WILL all be destroyed.
On the other hand, if you reverse the order, and send 2 to the Air Defense first, then there is a good chance the AD will survive.
BUT IF you send 3 balloons to the Air Defense, then 2 Balloons to the Wizard Tower, and 1 balloon to the Archer Tower, they will all likely be destroyed.
The reasoning is: the first balloons you send, will likely be be destroyed before it can drop a bomb. So you either send more to the Air Defense initially, or you send the first ones away from the Air Defense as a distraction.

Here is the finished product:

Final Notes:
When dropping the rage, erring on the side of “closer to the defenses” is better than erring on “dropping farther from defenses”.
The Rage spells stays for quite a while. In my example video, you can see that I dropped a 3rd balloon toward the Air Defense fairly late. The long Rage time gives you an opportunity to add more balloons if you think you did not deploy enough. You just have to pay attention, and send more balloons as soon as possible. Do NOT trickle in the balloons.
Dropping balloons in a small line (instead of tapping on the exact spots) is possible, but the results can be erratic.
Initially deploying 2 more balloons than necessary, is far better than initially deploying 2 less balloons than necessary. Err on the side of overkill.

Loon Splat 101

Why Loon Splat:

When balloons are destroyed, they drop to the ground and cause damage. Against buildings, the damage seems small, but against small CC troops, the damage is significant. Using (sacrificing) one or two balloons can allow you to wipe out CC troops, while at the same time, save you from having to carry a Lightning Bolt Spell. Having an extra Rage Spell, or Heal Spell, is extremely beneficial, compared to the small sacrifice of one or two balloons.

Objective of this course:

To teach you how to perform a Loon Splat., thus eliminating your need for a Lightning Spell, and to make you feel all giddy inside when all of the CC troops die from a SPLAT!

Qualifying for a Loon Splat:

First, you need to get ALL of the troops out of the enemy CC. This works best when the CC is full, and/or if the CC has multiple wizards.  This usually occurs in Clan Wars, where there are several archers and wizards in the CC.

This will not work if the CC is filled with aerial troops.
This will not work if there are less than 10-12 archers.

Instructions:

Once you have lured all the troops out of the CC, you need to gather them in one tight clump like this:

C:\CoC replays\Dragaloonion Tutorial vids\Splat Pic.png

Now, find the closest defense, and drop one balloon roughly 2-3 squares further away from that defense.

This is the end result:

Another example:

Notes:

Level 6 Wizards (red robes) cannot be taken out with one balloon. A second balloon is recommended to finish them off.

Notice on the second example, that troops will avoid walking through the center of decorations. This will make grouping up CC troops a bit more challenging.

When trying to position the clumped up CC troops, try to make sure there is only ONE obvious defense that the balloon will head toward. If in doubt, lure the troops to a place where the ONE closest defensive building is obvious.

It is extremely useful, before deploying the balloon, to check for the direction it will go, THEN ZOOM IN. This will allow you to place the balloon in a more exact position. Extremely helpful on phones, as well as tablets.

This WILL take practice. Don’t give up!

Dragaloonion example - TH8 three-stars TH8

In clan wars it is essential for TH8 bases to be able to 2- and 3-star other TH8 bases reliably. Balloonions (balloons and minions) are very good at this. In many cases adding one or dragons to the mix can help -- the Dragaloonion attack. TA1's ltbaxter provides narrated commentary on a sample TH8 three star with a one-dragon Dragaloonion. This is from visiting a clan war by CBC Ballas. Watch this blog for more Dragaloonion attacks and even a Dragaloonion guide :)

Clan War 2014-08-02

While Toucharcade1 did not win this class war, we had some really excellent attacks. The ones below were particularly good, and represent our troops from TH8 through TH10. Hats off to our foes with strong TH9 bases and a lot of skill getting two-stars.

Step Up vs 33 (GoWiPe)

GoWiPe isn't just for the big boys! Nice first GoWiPe attack by our lowest TH8 with his new lvl 2 pekka - 91% vs a near max TH8. BK was asleep upgrading. A lvl 5 pekka in your CC doesn't hurt.
2 Gol 3 Pekka 12 wiz 16 wb 10 barbs; 2 Rage 1 Heal.

Malakai vs 28 (GoWiPe)

GoWiPe vs TH9 for the three-star. Wide and rapid deployment of golems/wiz/pekka allowed three death squads to sweep the base, lef by a Lvl 5 pekka in the CC
2 Gol 4 Pekka 14 Wiz 6 wb 2 Gia 5 min 1 arc 1 gob; 4 rage

Helbaga vs 27 (GoWiWiPe)

GoWiWiPe vs TH9 three star. Late wizard deployment and crazy BK AI were salvaged by great use of spells and a tactical hog rider squad. Four witches, surviving golemites and AQ wiped out the base!
2 Gol 4 Witches 1 Pekka 13 wiz 5 wb 25 arc 6 hogs; 2 rage 2 heal

Meowr Jr vs 20 (Balloonion)

Methodical dissection of a spread out TH9 for two-stars with Balloonion. Balloon sweep lured CC and opened path to core. Textbook balloon splat killed entire CC. Final squad of raged balloons with minions took out central AD and town hall.

Meowr Jr vs 19 (Dragaloonion)

Another nice 2-star vs TH9 with central AD, this time using a combination of Dragons, Balloons and Minions - Dragaloonion!
Balloons knock out defenses and lure CC. Minions "clip" buildings on the side that would distract dragons. Once path is clear and leads to TH the dragons are released and raged near TH. Nearby AQ pulls them all together right on top of TH, ftw!
6 Drag 18 Bal 20 Min; 3 rage 1 heal

Lolipopz vs 12 (Dragoon)

Mass "Dragoon" done right! (Vs TH9) To counteract dragon's love to spread out, attacker used a few dragons to clip the edges, balloons to kill two AD and other defenses, then a squad of four dragons to fully cleat. only when path to TH was certain were the last four drags released together and raged on top of AQ and TH. Outcome was never in doubt!
8 Dragons with 22 Balloons; 4 rage and 1 heal

Boyzpod vs 10 (GoVaWiPe)

A crushing 92% 2-star vs a near max TH9 by a TH9 GoVaWiPe. After a wide deploy/clear the Valkyries went into hyperdrive rushing into core to take out CC troops. Well timed jump and rage caught a large force that shredded the TH and core.
2 Gol 3 Pekka 4 Valk 16 Wiz 6 wb 6 barb 1 arc

LTBaxter vs 7 (GoWiPe)

Our only 2-star of a TH10, despite a missing AQ. This was a close call, with the jump and freeze missing. Well timed iron fist summoned barbarians to distract IT from wizards. Two pekka to core and two circling worked great to get the 50%.
2 Gol 4 Pekka 22 Wiz 9 wb 7 barb 2 arc; 2 Freeze 2 Rage 1 Jump.

Welcome to the Blog

Welcome to the new Toucharcade1 website and blog! As we mature as a clan we just wanted a better space than clan chat to share more info and news about the clan, and have a place where we can share links and strategies, videos, etc. If there's something specific you want to see, let us know!
